Girls Gotta Run Foundation: Simien Girl Runners
Dr. Charles Teller Visits the Simien Girl Runners

In December 2008, GGRF advisor and Addis Ababa University Professor Charles Teller, who speaks the local language (Amharic), was able to visit with and honor eight (8) members of the Simien Girl Runners team and their three (3) coaches with a pre-Christmas lunch of traditional "fasting foods," which means no meat or dairy products. There was much toasting, with local fruit juices, of the team's first year success, as well as much laughter and many stories. The group also had fun engaging in the Ethiopian tradition of "gursha," the handfeeding of a large mouthful of food to someone else to show love, respect, kindness and a close, trusting relationship. The team then wrote Christmas cards and also gave the "Prof" traditional shoulder hugs to bring back to share with the Board.
